With avatar accessories themed around zombies, vampires, and animals (antlers, whiskers, etc) I think it would be cool to include an option to add pointed ears as a type of accessory. It could be an item in the hat or mask/face accessory slot. It would add more fun and fantasy to avatar creation and fit nicely with some of the other accessories, like the wizard hat or even the vampire mouth and clothing.
