[Peru] Nazca Lines and Geoglyphs: UNESCO World Heritage Site
complete
chocochocolala
The Nazca Lines "Spirits in the sand" are a group of geoglyphs (large designs in the landscape) that cover about 50 km², found in the Nazca Desert, Peru. They were made from 200 BCE to 500 CE by removing the top layer of reddish-brown pebbles to reveal the yellow-grey subsoil, they are among archeology's greatest enigmas because of their quantity, nature, size, geometric precision and continuity.
Most lines run straight in the landscape, but there are also drawings of animals and plants, they are best seen from the air because some of them are several kilometers long, they are believed to have had ritual astronomical functions. There are monkeys, spiders, whales, hummingbirds, owls, and even a strange flying animal. More than 100 shapes have been found by the time.
They are "one of the most impressive-looking archaeological areas in the world" and the "most outstanding group of geoglyphs anywhere in the world and are unmatched in its extent, magnitude, quantity, size, diversity and ancient tradition to any similar work in the world".
The geoglyphs were rediscovered in 1920, when the first commercial flies between Lima and Arequipa overflew the zone, In 1994 they were designated as UNESCO World Heritage Site.
My favorite geoglyph is the Hummingbird.

I'd like to see something like this:

But please comment. You can see more geoglyphs here:

There is another request for Peru, Machu Picchu. Peru only has one stamp, so please support. https://feedback.slowly.app/stamp-requests/p/peru-machu-picchu

Shiro from Slowly: Omg I had already forgotten about this. It's so cute!

Hello everyone! I love the nice initiatives of my friend. It's true! Peru has so many wonders and very few are remembered! I think there should be several stamps, whether from our carnivals, food, traditions or tourist places! Close to where I live we have Real Felipe. The history of him is rich, interesting and there are many legends about him! We have many iconic things, also great designers, poets and artists! I think that many countries like mine lack recognition!

chocochocolala, I think there's a typo in the name ? Isn't it
Nazca
?(you can edit it quick, and I will remove this comment once you done it)
chocochocolala
Yann2: I don't know how to write it. In Wikipedia it appears with z and in the UNESCO site it has an s, maybe both are right.
Yann2
chocochocolala: Ahhh! I see, then it gets confusing.
I have always seen it with the Z in the middle, but the Unesco site does indeed have an S instead. Ooops. 😛😀
You decide. What is the usual form in Peru, and the one marked on the maps?
chocochocolala
Yann2: It seems that Nazca is older. "Nazca (also Nasca, recently introduced variant)" https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nazca (that info doesn't appear in the English wiki)
Yann2
chocochocolala: Well spotted! That makes sense. Good work!
Yann2
The 'Nasca' form seems to be a recent variation on the form of writing the name, it's noted on the Spanish Wikipedia page as Choco noted and linked to.
ps: You need to move the '
!
' to the front of the inline image command so it will work as desired.chocochocolala
Omg, please someone from Peru help us hahaha Andy0409

chocochocolala: Hello! We always change everything, just like with Cuzco! The most used is Nazca, even when I passed through there. It is the one that is most in our history books! I really prefer her, Nasca feels so uncomfortable.
Yann2
Very nice idea and presentation, chocochocolala! Well done.
Since Peru currently only has ONE location stamp, there's room for more, for sure.
A couple of suggestions :
- you could Edit this Topic and include the country tag - [Peru]at the front of the proposal name. It's a new standard, Shiro has been editing a number of older proposals all to include the country in this way.
- you could also consider a mention of your other proposal, for Machu Pichu, and have a link to it.
Then people could visit and maybe support both? Marketing is important, lol.
Thanks, and good luck! 🍀✨👍😎🚀
edit : found a really nice image of the Hummigbird!
