This holiday commemorates the birthday of Confucius, who is believed to be the model master educator in ancient China.
Teachers' Day was established in Taiwan in 1939, but it was celebrated on August 27. In 1952 Confucius' the date of birth was recalculated according to the Gregorian calendar and it fell on September 28, thus the holiday was moved.
Celebration of Teachers' Day occurs in the temples of Confucius around Taiwan. Number of dancers and musicians participate in the festival, that is known as the Grand Ceremony Dedicated to Confucius. In addition to the religious festival, teachers are awarded for their excellent work.
Chinese schools in the Philippines also celebrate Teachers' Day on September 28. All festive activities are held on the eve of the holiday, on September 27, and the next day teachers and students have a day off.
Celebration of Teachers' Day is a good opportunity for students to visit their teachers and express the words of gratitude and respect.
