The Coco de Mer is a unique and fascinating palm tree that can only be found in the Seychelles. What makes this tree so special is its fruit, which is the largest in the plant kingdom and takes up to 6 to 7 years to mature. The fruit, also known as the "double coconut" or "sea coconut," can weigh up to 30 kilograms and can grow up to a meter in length. The Coco de Mer has long been considered a rare and valuable commodity, with the male and female trees being protected under Seychelles law. In fact, the tree's scientific name, Lodoicea maldivica, was named after King Louis XV of France and the Maldives, as it was once believed that the tree could only be found on these two islands. The Coco de Mer has also become an icon of the Seychelles, with its unique shape and suggestive curves inspiring countless legends and myths. The fruit has even been used in traditional medicine, with its supposed aphrodisiac properties leading to it being known as the "love nut." Pico Cão Grande "Great Dog Peak" is a landmark needle-shaped volcanic plug peak in São Tomé and Príncipe, in the Caué District of São Tomé Island in Parque Natural Obô de São Tomé. Its summit is 663 m (2,175 ft) above sea level, and it rises about 370 m (1,210 ft) over the surrounding terrain. The volcanic plug was formed by magma solidifying in the vent of an active volcano. The nearest village is Vila Clotilde, 3 km to the east. The district seat São João dos Angolares is 9 km to the east. The volcanic plug is quite a recent phenomenon, having formed as part of the Cameroon line of volcanoes roughly three and a half million years ago in the Pliocene. The annual Sea Festival (in some places known as Fishermen's Festival) takes place in most coastal towns and villages throughout Latvia this weekend, and is the second largest festival after Midsummer’s Night on the Latvian summer calendar. Even though this festival is celebrated in coastal towns and villages throughout the country, people from all over Latvia flock to the coast during the festivities to honor fishermen for their work, the sea for its abundance of life, or just to get away for the weekend and relax by the sea or go to the many traditional open-air concerts. During Sea Festival, the aroma of fresh smoked fish can be enjoyed in every coastal town or village, and people can take rides into open waters on fishing boats and purchase arts and crafts from local artists. Fjord Day (Fjordens Dag) is an annual nature-related observance held in Denmark on the second Sunday of September. It honors one of the most popular natural attractions of Scandinavia. A fjord is a long, narrow inlet with steep sides or cliffs. It is formed when a glacier cuts a trough (U-shaped) valley by ice segregation and abrasion of the surrounding bedrock. Most fjords are deeper than the adjacent sea. The employees of Skibhusgården, a nature and outdoor center in the Danish city of Odense, initiated Fjord Day in order to spread information about this unique natural phenomenon, increase the popularity of fjords among tourists, and emphasize the importance of preserving fjords and their biosphere. The city of Odense is located near a 13 km long fjord of the same name that covers an area of about 63 square kilometers. Odense celebrated its first Fjord Day in 1991. Today, the celebration encompasses two Danish fjords, Odense and Kerteminde. It involves over 150 organizations, associations, schools and companies.
