Åland Islands are located in between Sweden and Finland.

Bomarsund Fortress is one of their most imposing structures on the Åland Islands. Originally it's built by the Russian army as a defense structure, but it was destroyed during the Crimean War in 1854. The building was, ofcourse, never finished.

The ruins of Bomarsund and the remains of two watchtowers can be viewed as a historical monument.

A small museum is located in the old pilot's cabin on the nearby island of Prästö.
