Swimming is an activity that involves moving through the water using your arms and legs. One of the best ways to cool off on a hot summer day is swimming in a cold lake or pool. For example, the Netherlands is a country with lots of open water (around 19% of the country). Its important to know how to swim! Some even focus on this sport professionally to become an athlete.
Swimming is both a casual activity and a serious sport. To you, swimming may involve splashing through the waves or dog-paddling across a public pool. On the other hand, athletes swim distances as far as 1500 meters at unbelievable speeds.
A wellknown event (😉) in 2020 featured a total of 37 events (18 each for men and women and 1 mixed event), including two 10 km open-water marathons. This was a slight increase from the 34 events contested in the previous edition. The following events were contested (all pool events are long course, and distances are in meters unless stated):
Freestyle: 50, 100, 200, 400, 800, and 1,500;
Backstroke: 100 and 200;
Breaststroke: 100 and 200;
Butterfly: 100 and 200;
Individual medley: 200 and 400;
Relays: 4×100 free, 4×200 free; 4×100 medley (men's, women's, and mixed)
Marathon: 10 kilometres
>> With this stamp idea I am focusing on swimming as a sport. I know there's copyright on things like the Olympic Events, but there are a lot of swimming tournaments happening. The idea is just to make a stamp whenever there's a worldwide tournament without any copyright. <<
