Iranian musical instruments or Iranian musical instruments can be generally classified into three categories: classical, western and folk. Most of the Iranian musical instruments have spread in the countries of the former Iranian empires throughout the Middle East, Caucasus, Central Asia and through adaptation, relations and trade, in Europe and distant parts of Asia. In ancient times, the Silk Road played an effective role in this distribution.
