Mauritius is popularly known for the extinct flightless Dodo bird.
But because of it's extinction, it was decided to be superseded by the Mauritius Kestrel, a small falcon bird native to the island country which has been a major rescue achievement by the Mauritius Wildlife Foundation. Today, their population is estimated to be around 600 in the small remaining forest area.

Mauritian Kestrel postage stamps —

This would be absolutely awesome to have a Kestrel stamp, knowing the project to restore the specie.
Another animal, but extinct that could be nice to have here; the Mauritian Owl. :3
Idk, not many ppl knows about it...

Agreed, though we're more popular via the Dodo, the Mauritius Kestrel is our national bird. The Kestrel has been recognised as a near impossible project to save a species from the verge of extinction, setting a great example for so many wildlife restoration projects worldwide.
