[Morocco] Morocco Zellij
gllidmoorish
Zellij ( Zellige in french ) is a 100% Moroccan art that has been passed down from one generation to another. It is Moroccan technique for surface coating that is more trendy than ever. What makes these tiles more interesting is the fact they are 100% man-made by only Moroccan hands. They can be found everywhere in Morocco, in addition to southern Spain ( Andalusia ) and the city of Tlemcen ( currently under the Algerian sovereignty ) that were both under the Moroccan reign for a few hundreds of years.

Moroccan Zellij is part of our Moroccan culture. it's something we take pride in as part of our architecture and design. It is truly one of kind! the patterns are unique and the colors are vivid and refreshing. I would love to have it as a stamp!

I do not understand this tendentious wave of distorting historical facts and attributing them to you without evidence
Followers of all nationalities have the right to know the truth
And the sentence of "currently under the Algerian sovereignty " a blatant and unreasonable transgression
Tlemcen is Algerian and has always been Algerian, even the Zellij. The Bani Hammad Castle (1007 AD) in M'sila bears witness to this, it's not Moroccan
Zellij fragments from al-Mansuriyya (Sabra) in Tunisia, possibly dating from either the mid-10th century Fatimid foundation or from the mid-11th Zirid dynasty, suggest that the technique may have developed in the western Islamic world around this period. Georges Marçais argued that these fragments, along with similar decoration found at Mahdia, indicate that the technique likely originated in Ifriqiya and was subsequently exported further west
It was probably inspired or derived from Byzantine mosaics and then adapted by Muslim craftsmen for faience tiles. By the 11th century, the zellij technique had reached a sophisticated level in the western Islamic world, as attested in the elaborate pavements found at Qal'at Bani Hammad in Algeria.
zellij is more of an islamic heritage in northen african region
and who has no history must not steal the history of others.
