The Norwegian Forest Cat ("skogskatt", or "skaukatt" in some dialects) is a large, adventurous breed, once declared "Norway's official cat" by King Olav V. With their thick, heavy fur and tufted paws and ears, they are perfectly adapted to thrive in the harsh Norwegian climate.

But their wild appearance belies a heart full of love. Despite their size, energy, and wanderlust, Norwegian forest cats are considered "gentle giants", with a reputation for being greatly affectionate around their owners and other humans.
