[Poland] Mikołaj Kopernik (Nicolaus Copernicus)
mikimi
One of the most important Polish scientists, next to Skłodowska-Curie.
Nicolaus Copernicus was Polish mathematician and astronomer who proposed a heliocentric system, that the planets orbit around the Sun. It was an alternative model of the universe to Ptolemy's geocentric system, which had been widely accepted since ancient times. The publication of Copernicus's model in his book “De revolutionibus orbium coelestium” (On the Revolutions of the Celestial Spheres), just before his death in 1543, was a major event in the history of science, triggering the Copernican Revolution and making a pioneering contribution to the Scientific Revolution.

Thanks for your suggestion.
For now, we will only issue stamps for specific public figures: 1. with international days or commemorative days designated by the United Nations or other international organizations (global release); 2. with commemorative days or public holidays designated by the local government or credible organizations (regional release).

Shiro from Slowly did you know that his theory was groundbreaking for the world of science? The heliocentric theory, that the Earth revolves around the sun, not the other way around.
There's no holiday for Maria Skłodowska-Curie, yet she received her own stamp. There's also no Galileo Day, yet there's a stamp featuring his telescope. They made a huge contribution to science, and that should be celebrated.

Shiro from Slowly Polish Science Day is celebrated on February 19th, which is also the day when Copernicus was born. Locally in Grudziądz there's also Day of Nicolaus Copernicus the Economist (he's usually remembered as an astronomer, but the guy had more talents) on March 21st, when he presented his treatise "De aestimatione monetae".

This year is his 550th birthday so it is a perfect moment to release this stamp.

Nice suggestion, mikimi!
I found a great classic illustration showing him and made a mock stamp design. Hope you like it. Here in 3 variations of frame colour.

Yann2: Yes, I like it. Thank you :) Oh, and I'd put “Stopping the Sun to move the Earth” or something like that in the description line.
