Hussars or winged hussars - elite heavy cavalry of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, consisting of the wealthiest nobility, belonging to the national organization. Its characteristic feature were wings attached to various parts of the armor or saddle. The Hussars were formed in 1503 and dissolved in 1776,

then transformed into the national cavalry.
