Faina Georgievna Ranevskaya - Russian and Soviet theater and film actress;
The appearance of this actress was far from the accepted ideas about acting beauty. But Faina Ranevskaya is not loved and remembered for this. She was smart and witty, incredibly persistent and talented. She could "knock out" a person with one look or a harsh word.
Faina Ranevskaya has played several roles on the stage of the theater and in the cinema:
Her debut film work was the drama "Pyshka" directed by Romm, filmed in 1934. Ranevskaya played Madame Loiseau.
In the 30s, she was offered roles in three films, in each of which she starred as a wife. In the film "The Man in the Case" Ranevskaya played the wife of an inspector, in the film "The Error of the engineer Cochin" - the wife of a tailor. The most striking work was the painting "The Foundling".
In 1943, the picture "Wedding" was released on the screens, where she got the role of a mother.
In 1947, the audience was able to see another comedy "Spring", where Faina got the role of Margarita Lvovna.
Also in 1947, Ranevskaya was offered to star in the film "Cinderella" directed by Kosheverova. She got the colorful role of the stepmother, which the screenwriter E. Schwartz wrote specifically for Ranevskaya. He allowed the actress to interpret the role at her discretion, insert her own words and phrases. Ranevskaya considered this role to be the most successful in her entire creative career in cinema.
The last tape in which Faina participated was "Today is a new attraction", where she was the director of the circus. The director agreed to all the conditions that Faina put up, he really wanted her to play this role

!A few more facts about her that might be relevant:
* Faina Ranevskaya was born as Faina Feldman (Фельдман) to a Jewish family in the city of Taganrog.
* Her passion for theater began when she was 14. Her attendance of Chekhov's The Cherry Orchard at the Moscow Art Theater was an experience that had great impact on her. Her pseudonym "Ranevskaya," which later became her official surname, also came from that theater visit.

. That was done despite the fact that the actress had never played a major part in a movie: all her roles were supporting ones* In 2008 a Ranevskaya Monument was inaugurated in Taganrog in front of actress's birth house on Ulitsa Frunze 10 within the framework of the International Ranevskaya Theater Festival "The Great Province"*
