228 Peace Memorial Day is an important national public holiday on February 28th in Taiwan.
The day is about remembering, dreams of peace, justice, hope and love. We call for all the people who love our mother country, Taiwan, to stick together and fight for peace and freedom.
The February 28 Incident, also called the February 28 Massacre, the 228 Incident, or the 228 Massacre was an anti-government uprising in Taiwan that began on February 27, 1947, and was violently suppressed by the KMT-led Republic of China government.
Taiwanese people are on the way to uncovering the history and achieving transitional justice. We have many monuments and memorials in different cities. The Taipei 228 Peace Monument is the most symbolic one.
The symbolic flower for this day is Taiwanese lily, or Lilium formosanum.
A pin of Taiwanese lily was designed and given away this year to memorize the day.
