[Taiwan] Yeh Yung-chih Incident
闕厥QueJue
This is a campus incident in Taiwan related to the issue of gender diversity. Yeh Yung-Chih was bullied by some classmates due to their different gender identities and was afraid to go to the restroom during class breaks. On April 20, 2000, at 11:42 am, he left the classroom early to go to the restroom and was later found critically injured and lying in a pool of blood. Despite being rushed to the hospital, the student passed away. This incident sparked discussions on gender education in Taiwanese society, leading to the revision of the original "Gender Equality Education Act" in 2004 to become the "Gender Equity Education Act". Education policies have since evolved from traditional binary gender education to a more universal approach to gender equality education.
