[Ukraine] [Slavic] Domovyk, a household spirit
chuudachka
Good afternoon! I would like to propose a new idea for the stamp that includes a well-known and important character in our mythology and culture. Domovyk is a character in Slavic mythology, a spirit or household deity who lives in a house and takes care of it and its inhabitants, or vice versa, harms them. As a rule, Domovyk was invisible, or visible only to the owners of the house or to those people who treated him well. Domovyk was credited with protecting the home from disasters, promoting the health and reproduction of livestock, doing work for the owner, and scaring away thieves. He could give a certain sign if important news was to happen or a guest was to arrive. It was believed that the Domovyk would be calm and friendly if the family lived in harmony and left treats for him. In many traditions, especially in Ukraine and in villages, this spirit is still believed in and greatly revered, and therefore is a big part of our daily lives. Thank you for considering this offer! Have a great day!
