World modernisme (art nouveau) day - June 10
mapuo
Every year, on June 10th, the whole world comes together to celebrate World Modernism Day. This date gives us the opportunity to appreciate the beauty and innovation that this artistic movement brought with it.
Modernism was an artistic and cultural movement that flourished in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It emerged as a response to industrialism, seeking to revitalize art, architecture, design, and literature with a focus on originality and experimentation. From the organic and flowing forms of Art Nouveau to the bold geometry and clean lines of Art Deco, modernism encompasses a wide range of styles and artistic expressions.
Victor Horta was a Belgian architect and one of the founders of the Art Nouveau movement. His Hôtel Tassel project in Brussels is considered the first Art Nouveau house and is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Although Belgium has just received a batch of local stamps, there is not a single Art Nouveau building in it!
